Information Technology

The Information Technology (IT) Department implements, maintains and troubleshoots the city’s entire computer and network environment. Staffed by two people, the IT Department directly supports approximately 85 personal computers and laptops for a 115 member workforce distributed across nine different buildings. Support extends to "after hours" for complete 24 hour/365 day coverage.
Components include five high-end Dell PowerEdge servers running Windows Server 2003, one UNIX server, a firewall appliance, a spam filter, a virtual private network (VPN), fiber and CAT 5 infrastructure, network and personal computer hardware, software, backup devices, Exchange Server 2003 e-mail and broadband Internet service. Additionally, the city utilizes specialized software and system hardware to support unique Police, Fire, Finance, Utilities, Court and Public Works data processing. The IT Department develops and maintains Live Oak’s official Web site and provides operating system and application program training to employees.
The IT Department strives to maintain an infrastructure that is reliable, adaptable and scalable that assures the security, integrity and availability of information. We evaluate emerging technologies for the purpose of providing a cost-effective means of achieving results and improving operational efficiency within the city.
