Kids skateboarding at Main City park

Created in the 1971 from property donated by a developer Llyod Denton and currently serving as a major flood control project, the Live Oak main park has its primary entrance off Welcome Dr. and Leafy Hollow. The park area was petitioned to become a Texas Historical Site in 1979 because of an old Indian Camp Site that was located in the park. Records of the archeological dig remain in the records of the city. A total of approximately 75 acres, this park features several amenities including a football field, basketball court, skate spot, three baseball fields, multiple playscapes and a disc golf course. A 2014 bond project provided lights to all ball fields as well as a trail that circumnavigates the lake to make a path of nearly 2 miles long in entirety. The playground areas are equipped with a state-of-the-art astroturf and a surrounding fence providing increased safety for the children. There are 2 restroom facilities located in the park and are conveniently accessible from all areas.

The football field and baseball fields are under contract through youth sporting teams and therefore cannot be rented for private usage. When the fields are not utilized by these sporting groups, they are open to the public on a first come first serve basis.

There are several picnic sites set among the park that are equipped with a table and many include a barbecue pit. These areas are open to the public on a first come, first served basis as well. Remember, the park belongs to everyone, so please be courteous and share the trails and amenities.

The City of Live Oak opened "The Oaks" Plaza Skate park officially in August 2016. Several youth in the area brought the project to city leaders long before it was built. Funds were provided by the City as well as a donation from the Live Oak Optimists Club. The Skate Spot is located near the shade of Live Oak tree canopies, and consists of a bi-level plaza style skate path with skatable features installed along the way. The upper level includes a manual pad and turn-around wall.

The lower section has a flat rail, ledge, and quarter pipe. Also installed within the park is a stair set, down rail, and bank. The long plaza skate path, together with all of the features and positioned skate amenities allows skaters, bikers, and parkour athletes to perform and practice multiple tricks over the course of several hundred feet. Natural seating areas and installed rocks provide enjoyable resting spots within the park.

Child fishing at the lake

The lake in our Lakeside Park was created in a watershed management project by the San Antonio River Authority, who still controls the dam and the spillway around it. The city initially began discussions in 1974 about taking over the area around the lake and in 1975 the park area was set up in a three-phase plan funded by a grant through the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department. The entrance to the lake and pond area at the main park is Lone Shadow Trail to Lazy Forest Drive and is the home to a tranquil spot and an ideal location for picnics, walks or a day of fishing. The gazebo, that has been recently updated, is the perfect location for getting those one of a kind photo with the picturesque lake as a backdrop.

There are two handicap accessible fishing piers, one at the lake that was sponsored by several community groups and retailers and one at the pond that is perfect for smaller fishing groups. The pond is also equipped with an aerator, creating fresh oxygen to extend the lifespan of our wildlife and habitation. Twice a year the lake is stocked with fish. In the cooler months, a fisherman can expect to find some sizable trout, and in the summer months a plentiful assortment of catfish and bass. Be sure to toss in a line! All Texas gaming laws must be observed regarding fishing. The first Saturday in June is National Fishing Day and no fishing license is required for this day.

We have a large amount of waterfowl who call our lake home. We have swans, ducks and a specific species of Egyptian Geese call our lake home. With hopes of controlling the Geese and improving the health of the ducks, there are instructions at the lake on the proper food items to feed our waterfowl. Please help us by controlling what is fed to the ducks to make them and the environment in which they and the fish live healthier.

Paddle board, kayaks, canoes and other non-motorized boats have been allowed on our lake since August 11th of 2018. The City of Live Oak City Council passed an ordinance to allow for the use of these non-motorized watercraft on Live Oak Lake, but it does NOT include the use of individual or manually inflatable rafts or boats. The following are a few reminders for those wishing to engage in boating in Live Oak:

  1. The City of Live Oak requires approved life jackets or approved flotation devices always be worn by anyone in a watercraft.
  2. There are no vehicles allowed off the roadway, and portage of all watercrafts must be accomplished by walking.
  3. Consuming or possessing alcoholic beverages while engaging in boating is prohibited.
  4. The use of personal watercraft is limited to daylight hours only.
  5. Swimming is not allowed in Live Oak Lake.

The City of Live Oak strives to provide new and exciting recreational activities for the community. We hope that you will remain a safe and responsible boater, and most of all have fun! For more information, and to see the complete ordinance that pertains to boating on Live Oak Lake, please see Ordinance #1521.

Created with a Tax Increment Reinvestment Zone that included the Auburn Hills of Woodcrest, Regent properties pledged the property and $300,000 dollars to the city for the creation of this park that would serve as an amenity (and flood control device) for all of Woodcrest and Auburn Hills of the Woodcrest subdivisions. The park itself is located at 11021 Forest Pass Court and can be accessed off of Forest Bluff from Toepperwein Road. When it was officially opened on June 1, 2009, approximately 32 acres, most being natural wooded areas, made the park a favorite for the surrounding residents.

The walking and jogging trails are thoughtfully looped to get you back to the starting area with several trails and picnic tables, many of them shaded, so you can stop and enjoy nature with your dining experience. The proximity of the restroom to the playground area is especially convenient for those accompanying small children. This playground offers very unique and challenging activities including a large climbing rock, swings, two monster slides, sit and spin rides, elevated platforms with shade canopies, bridges between platforms, numerous play panels, and so forth. Even the state-of-the-art artificial turf playground surface adds a special dimension to this one of a kind park amenity and safe and convenient workout stations for people of all ages.

Toepperwein Xeriscape Park

Created with the excess right-of-way when the Judson/Toepperwein Road intersection was improved, this area is home to a gazebo and seating area that has proven to be the favorite of visitors, healthcare workers and patients from the Methodist Hospital/Northeast. This park is located across from the hospital with a safe accessible crosswalk. The park is adorned with plantings from the Live Oak Garden Club and has been the site of many Arbor Day ceremonies and plant sales. Additional planters were added in 2019 and a masonry fence was installed in 2020 to provide a better-looking backdrop to the already serene park.
