Board of Adjustment

    Board of Adjustment Roster

The Zoning Board of Adjustment is a board that provides a vehicle for citizens to appeal zoning interpretations and decisions of the Building Official, and request variances from the City’s zoning ordinance. The main purpose of the Board is to provide a “release valve” for those situations where literal enforcement of the City’s Zoning Ordinance may impose unnecessary hardship. The Board may also make final decisions regarding changes, the reestablishment, or termination of nonconforming uses within the City. The Board currently has four (4) members and two (2) alternate members appointed by the City Council. The Zoning Board of Adjustment meets the last Thursday of the month, as needed, at City’s Council Chamber.

    Qualifications for Appointment

The City of Live Oak utilizes the services of citizen volunteers to serve on all City Boards and Commissions. Boards and Commissions are integral component of the governance of the City, and therefore require the service of interested individuals who have a passion for service. The City of Live Oak’s Code of Ordinances establishes that persons who have resided in the City for at least twelve (12) months shall be considered for appointment to City boards and commissions unless otherwise provided in the Code.
